My Great Grandparents, Great Aunt, and My Grandpa all came from Lithuania to America aboard a ship called the General Hershey in 1949. They came through Ellis Island. They left Lithuania during the Soviet occupation during World War ll. They where the first ones in there family to leave in fact my 11 of Great Grandpa's siblings stayed in Lithuania. When they came through Germany to get to the boat my Grandpa was born. This didn't stop them from going they knew this was there only chance to leave so the bundled up my Grandpa and got on the ship. My Great Aunt who was 3 at the time remembers her Mom waking her up at the crack of dawn to see the Statue of Liberty as they approached Ellis Island. This impacted my life because if they had not been brave enough to leave or had chosen to stay after my Grandpa was born I would not have the same life as I do now who know how thing could have turned out. Its strange to think that people I have never met before have had a huge impact on my life I am very grateful of my Great Grandparents for risking everything to come here.
