A gleek is a fan of the TV show Glee. We chose this subculture because I am a Gleek. There is no historical example because this is a modern day subculture. A modern day example is me, Alyssa, and Darian.
Geography- Earth's physical features and human features including locations of places and regions, and political boundaries.
My family and I travel a lot because my dad has a job where he has to travel a lot. I've been to all the states but 10 and to different countries every once in a while. Once a year we go to Florida and at least twice a year we go to Canada to visit family. My most recent vacation I went to the Bahamas with my Godparents. My parents believe that there's no better way to learn about a place than going there so when we go on vacation we make sure to plan activities where we can relax and have fun while learning the history of where we are. This shaped who I am because now I know more about other cultures and my culture. Civics- Active participation within societies, schools, neighboorhoods, classrooms, groups, and/or orginizations.
When I was 4 I entered kindergarten at Kinder Care. At that school I was bullied for being smaller and younger than the other kids. I transferred to a different school which was better but after kindergarten i transferred to Goodrich so I could go to the same school as my brother, because I was younger they had to make sure i was mature enough. I then transferred to Chesterbrook Academy and was made fun of because i was a lot shorter than the other kids. I then went back to Goodrich and met some of my best friends like Devun. This shaped who I am today because now I'll befriend the person who is being made fun of instead of just watching it happen. When I was 3 or 4 I started playing soccer, soccer was and is an outlet for my emotions, so anything I'm upset about I can just let it out when I'm playing. When I was 6 I started travel soccer which is more competitive. To this day I'm still very passionate about soccer. In 5th grade I met one of my best friends through band named Ryan. In 6th grade i met a lot of new friends from different elementary schools in the district. Some are great friends that I'm still friends with now, such as Claudia. Some weren't as great of friends, some of my friends bullied me online and in person the summer going into 7th grade. I started cross country in 2013, I did it just to help with soccer but I ended up liking it a lot and being pretty good at in. The coaches believed in me and that helped me to believe in myself as well, that self confidence was one of the reasons I qualified for state. Cross country and soccer taught me that if I set my mind to a goal and really work for it I can achieve it. Since 2013 I've been doing speed and agility training at a facility, where i met my trainer Brit. She's taught me a lot about how I should treat people and how to deal with being made fun of, she's basically another sister to me. She shaped who I am today because she taught me that no matter how rough the situation is I'm strong enough to make it through. My Grandma on my moms side, who I call "lola" because that's Tagalog for "grandma" came to Canada when my mom was four years old. She came for better jobs and better opportunities for her kids. There is a large Filipino population in Canada so she wasn't very worried about losing traditions. While she was in Canada, they didn't start out with a lot of money but she didn't really have a problem getting a job because she spoke English very well. She got a job in the Canadian government, teaching her kids that if you work hard anything is possible. My mom wanted to be a nurse since she was a kid so she moved to Texas and went to a nursing school where she met my dad who was in the Air Force. Around that time my lolo died. Although that was heartbreaking for my entire family, my mom and lola continue to tell my siblings and me to work hard for him because he's a major reason we're here. Now we still have traditional Filipino foods at least once or twice a month, we're learning to speak Tagalog more frequently, and we work hard because my lolo, lola, and my parents worked hard for me to be here.
Grandma on moms side (Lola)-

How people choose to use resources and the ways in which governments, businesses, societies, and individuals distributes (give out) and consume (use) human capital, physical capital, and natural resources My grandma on my moms side was one of the richest families in the Philippines, she grew up with maids and servants so she never really cleans or does anything without assistance. My grandpa on my moms side was very poor so he was a neat freak and a hard worker. But when they moved to Canada my grandma started working very hard and just retired from the Canadian government. My grandma and grandpa on my dads side didn't have much money growing up so they are both very hard workers. My parents make pretty good money, my moms a nurse and my dads a software engineer. My siblings and I are very privileged to have parents who make a lot of money, but our parents still make us work for what we want. |
