A hipster is a person who is smart enough to talk about philosophy, music, polictics etc. They keep up with the latest fashion trends especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream. They’re inside people usually isolated from the world around them, I would call myself a hipster. A historical example of a hipster would be Waldo from the Where's Waldo books back in the 1980's. He fit the typical hipster look with the skinny jeans, thick rounded glasses, striped red sweater and the slouchy beanie. The typical 90's nerd would be the modern day hipster today. A hipster is also one that possess taste, social attitude and opinions deemed cool by cool.
One way Geography affected me is when my sister moved away, my sister moved to Honolulu, Hawaii to attend HPU (Hawaii Pacific University) I didn't want her to leave at all, she was my role model and with out her I didn't know who to look up to. I miss her dearly and I'm constantly thinking about her. She's been there for now nearly 5 years. I'd be a different person if my sister was here maybe better or worse but I know for sure with out her here I've changed. My sister is a hero to me. With out her here I've become more independent and found out who I am and what i want to be.
Why did you move to the United States?
My parents moved to the United States in 1994, three years after my older sister was born. They told me that they moved because they wanted to start something new for themselves and for my sister to get a better education. Once in the United States where did you live? My parents explained to me that they had to move around a lot due to the lack of money they had when they first got here, they first stayed in the city of Chicago in very small apartment they didn't stay there for long cause like i said they didn't have the money, they moved 4 years later to Norridge which is about 20 minutes away from the city. They lived in another apartment this time bigger and nicer. My sister started school and my parents got Jobs. My family only lived their for 4 years though after realizing that the schools in Norridge aren't good. In 1999 my parents moved to Woodridge which was there final destination and they've been here ever since. Did you ever wish you were back living in Poland? My parents said yes and no. Yes they wish they could be back there to be with most of our family and to support them and help out with my grandparents, but at the same time they said no because they said that once they moved here they have way more opportunities and goals that would've never had back in Poland What was your biggest challenge when you moved here ? My parents said there biggest challenge was learning and talking to people in English they said the first couple years were rough for them because they struggled communicating to others in public History is a big thing that as a affected my family. My history and family's history goes back far. about 90% of my family is from Poland. My ancestors and older family members lived scattered around Poland. Now most my of my family lives in the small village of Stalowa Wola. This is actually where my parents grew up and met. With out the history of my ancestors and family coming from Poland i wouldn't be the same person as i am today. If i wasn't from Poland or if i didn't know much about my history I wouldn't be speaking polish at home and i wouldn't understand most traditions that we do. With out my history i would be clueless of my family, fun fact my greatest of all great grand father was one of the first kings of Poland which i find amazing to know.
