Things that Surprised Me:
I was surprised how 75,356,722 immigrants came to America from the years 1820-2010 and 10,299,430 immigrants came to America in the decade 2000-2009. But what shocked me the most was that, Immigrants were only 3.5% of the total U.S population. When we first started learning about Ellis/Angel Island I knew a little about them but not as much as I learned. This was very fascinating because that shows how many people thought and think that the United States is a free and wonder place and more job opportunities.
Questions I asked:
1. Where am I from? Italy, Sweden, Poland, Germany, and France.
2. Why did my family come to the U.S? Better life.
3. When did they come to U.S? 1900's
4. Who are my ancestors? GG Grandfather Salvatore, GG Grandmother Theresa, GG Grandfather Peter, and GG Grandmother Irene.
History: the study of past events, particularly in human affairs or the whole series of past events connected with someone or something.
Key words: background, past, life story, biography, experiences, backstory;
DAD'S SIDE
My family has many generations. (Dad's mom's side.) My dad's side, from what I know, started in the early 1900's when my GREAT GREAT Grandfather, Salvatore, came from Italy to America for a better life. After he was settled, he bought a BIG piece of square land where he grew crops. That is where he met my GREAT GREAT Grandmother, Theresa, and was married. They later had a baby boy, Sands, one of 17 children. My other GREAT GREAT Grandfather, Peter, came all the way from Sweden, on a boat, at age 11 all by himself, and landed in America. Later in his life he met my GREAT GREAT Grandmother, Irene, and they got married. They gave birth to a baby girl, Virginia.
In the mid 1900's Virginia and Sands gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Sandra, my Grandma/Nana.
Now I don't know that much on how my grandfather's side started, but I do know that their side is from an area between Poland and Germany and the other side of the family is from an area between France and Germany. Somewhere in there my Grandfather, Robert, was born.
He and my Nana were married in Wisconsin and gave birth to their 1st child, Robert, a.k.a my dad. He was the oldest of 3 children in that family. The other's were Adrian and Samantha. Later, when my dad was 16, his parents, my grandparents, moved to Illinois then shortly thereafter were divorced.
Both of my grandparents re-married. My Nana married Dave and had another set of children; 3.
My grandfather was re-married, but never had children.
MOMS' SIDE
I don't know much about my mom's side of the family, but here's what I know; my great grandmother, Helen, married William, and gave birth to Robert.
My other great grandmother, M'liss, married George, and gave birth to Lois.
My grandmother, Lois, and my grandfather, Robert got married, had 3 children, including a beautiful baby girl Debra, my mother.
This makes me, me, because it's where I am from and how I exist. It also shows me my family came here for a reason and knew it would be better life for future family.

Lenses of My Life...(part 2)
Economics: the part of something that relates to money. Around the age of 4, my dad started working another job because my parents needed extra money. He would get up at four o'clock in the morning, work at the hospital, where he works with blood and other body fluids, come home, take a thirty minute nap, and was off to his other job at Trader Joe's. He wouldn't get back until ten at night. I was so used to BOTH of my parents being home when I got home from preschool and asking me how my day was. It still happened just not as often. My dad still works at that job and is working on Tuesday an d Thursday nights. I see him on Mondays. Wednesdays, Fridays, and on the weekends but not till later in the day, 4 p.m. This makes me, me because, I now know to cherish the good times. So on Tuesdays and Thursdays its' me and my mom! |
