What surprised me during this unit was that there were so many ways to get here (Ellis Island, Angle Island, Green card, etc.) But I also wanted to know more in detail/depth, like how they felt and what was going through they're head and once they got there, did they want to go back home and if they didn't were they homesick? Other things I learned was that a lot of things changed for them once they got here such as language, temperature/climate, accommodation, clothing, holidays, transportation, all of those things effected their daily life's. It seems like it must have been really difficult to leave your whole life behind and come to a whole different place and start from scratch.
Within the lens history and Geography have probably had the biggest impact because without those things I wouldn't be who I am or where I am today. Civics and economics have not presented themselves to me but when they do I'm sure they will have just as big an impact.
(my computer wasn't being nice and I couldn't upload or do anything i wanted to do) How does where we live now effect my personality and just me in general?
I have got a Midwest mentality. If we moved to the city then it would be hard for me to a just because I have lived in a suburb all my life. How have I changed throughout the years? Other than the normal growing and getting older I have become more independent. When I was younger I didn't make friends as easy as I do now. What part of Ireland is our family from? Southern Ireland- Limerick and sligo. Did my Grandparents value their religion and their race? Yes, proud of their heritage and were they came from and how they were raised and everything. Did you raise me differently than the way you were raised or how you wanted to raise me? No, she was happy with how everything worked out. My Grandma from my dads side came from Ireland through New York (Ellis Island). My Grandpa came from Ireland as well but through Canada and almost froze to death trying to get here because they were not allowed to bring a whole lot with them. My other Grandma and Grandpa on my moms side were both born here in the United States. They both kept most of their traditions throughout their journey.
My dad works for a big computer company downtown and my mom doesn't work.
I used to run track and field for Naperville Central High School until I started Jefferson Junior High. When the season came back I ran for themand Downers Grove North. When my Aunt was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer I had been spending so much time at rush Copley all the patients and doctors knew me at there. It felt good knowing I was making a positive impact on peoples lives in the community.
